These professional clients from Cheshire needed a kitchen that could handle daily life while being spectacular for entertaining. After meeting in the Hush showroom, they couldn't return for further appointments, so Chris offered to drive up to measure their space. Their brief was essentially: "Create something fantastic" and they believed in his judgment completely.
Design challenge
This project required a different approach from Hush’s usual collaborative process. The clients simply didn't have the time to be deeply involved in every design decision. They needed someone they could trust to interpret the property's style and deliver a solution without constant input. The challenge was twofold: the kitchen had to function as a practical working space for their housekeeper while also serving as an impressive entertaining space for guests. Additionally, two low-positioned windows on the left side created awkward zones that needed creative solutions. Our solution
Without detailed direction, Chris read the home's aesthetic - its scale, its style, its ambitions - and designed accordingly. Rather than a simple extractor hood, he created a full chimney breast mantle over the range that added gravitas matching the home's character. Between the low windows, he designed built-in bench seating flanking an elegant drinks cabinet - turning potential problem areas into features. The utility room received equal attention with an ironing table and slatted linen storage, demonstrating Hush's capability to design entire multi-room spaces that work together seamlessly. We delivered a kitchen with sophisticated presence - painted cabinets with enough decorative detail to feel special without being ostentatious. The island features corner posts and skirting board details that elevate it to furniture status rather than mere cabinetry. We installed an Everhot range, Fisher & Paykel appliances, Perrin & Rowe taps, and a Shaw's sink, with Buster & Punch hardware adding contemporary edge. The utility room includes a freestanding island that doubles as a folding station, plus thoughtfully designed linen storage with slatted oak shelves for ventilation.
The result
By observing the home's character, Chris delivered exactly what the clients needed even if when they didn’t have the time to articulate it explicitly. The full mantle and architectural details created the impact their lifestyle demanded, while carefully designed utility spaces meant their housekeeper had everything needed for smooth daily operation.
